Have you been thinking on tackling a larger crochet project besides sweaters or crop tops? We have the perfect crochet cardigan pattern project with a gorgeous ribbing stitch (with sizes XS – 5XL!!!) here on the Yarnalina blog for you!

Inspiration & Description & Process
If you take a look across all the projects on my blog, you’ll know that I adore any kind of ribbing stitch. They have a timeless look that I just can’t get enough of, hence my creation of THE classic ribbed long cardigan pattern. I’ve always wanted to tackle on cardigan projects, though I never got around to it.
I think this is the biggest project I’ve made in terms of clothing, with the most detail (excluding the blankets).
Creating more handmade pieces for my closet and for the Yarnalina blog is something I’ve been trying to do more ever since receiving many comments and likes for the fan favorite pattern: crochet cropped sweater vest. And ever since then I’ve been planning out more and more clothing pieces for the blog, and they’re soon to make an appearance on both my Youtube channel and blog!
SO, if you haven’t already, subscribe to the Yarnalina Youtube channel for video tutorials on the newest patterns available on the blog! We are currently at 1.6k subscribers right now!

Long cardigans have always been pretty intimidating to me due to the size and overall detail, but this crochet cardigan pattern has been really fun to make as the body piece was such a mindless part to work on haha! Though I would still classify this as in the range of beginner to intermediate, as the project took a while for me to finish.
This crochet cardigan pattern could look great in any color, I could imagine this in black, white, blue, and any color. You could mix and match colors as well. There also might be another long cardigan pattern coming up in other colors, so you might want to be on the look out for that hehe!
I can definitely see myself wearing this with maybe a thin long sleeve underneath or turtleneck sweater with some baggy high waisted jeans! There are plenty of outfit options to go with this crochet cardigan pattern, and bonus since it’ll be handmade by yourself! It can easily pass as a store bought item that you bought, trust me on that.
I definitely recommend heavy yarns since this 100% wool yarn that I used for this crochet cardigan pattern had an amazing drape down the shoulders. I recommend yarns made with fibers such as polyester, wool, or cotton, instead of acrylic yarn. But at the end of the day, your cardigan would still look gorgeous.

Your yarn usage depends on how tight your stitches are or how loose they are, so you might end up using more or less yarn than I did. Or you picked another yarn to work with, then the yardage you’d need will no doubt be different. But you can definitely use the extra yardages to increase the body panel width or sleeves by a handful of rows to create a more oversized look!
Last but not least, if you’d like an accessory to go with this cardigan—this easy crochet bucket hat could also be a wonderful project for you to tackle next!
