Since it is the summer season, I wanted to make some summer tops that are perfect for the weather! And after debating between tank tops, tube tops, and others, I eventually settled on a bandeau top as it’s super beginner friendly due to it’s basic structure of a square. For a little bit of ~spice~ within the bandeau top that’s not just a solid color, I added a gingham pattern to this crochet bandeau top that you can make for yourself using the free written pattern right below!
Inspiration & Description & Process
I knew I wanted to add some pattern somewhere in the bandeau top, because I had more than one color/skein of the Hobbii yarn and I decided that it would almost be too simple of a pattern to write and post here on the Yarnalina blog. So I considered patterns like houndstooth, striped, or flowered, but I eventually settled on gingham as you can see from the results haha! Besides this crochet bandeau top, I was working on other summer tops that will soon be making an appearance on the blog!
The hardest part of the bandeau top was the gingham pattern in the center, since it had an actual stitch pattern to use unlike the black single crochet border. Side note, I used the term gingham, checkered, and plaid pattern very loosely in the video tutorial, so if you’re here from the Yarnalina Youtube channel, please ignore that.
It was a really simple project to create and great for customization too! You could create this crochet bandeau top in any colored gingham pattern you prefer such as brown, red, green, or yellow for the summer.

Creating more handmade pieces for my closet and for the Yarnalina blog is something I’ve been trying to do more ever since receiving many comments and likes for the fan favorite pattern: crochet cropped sweater vest. And ever since then I’ve been planning out more and more clothing pieces for the blog, and they’re soon to make an appearance on both my Youtube channel and blog!
We currently have the brown patchwork cardigan, checkered bucket hat, ribbed long cardigan, rosea color block sweater, knit crop top, crochet cropped sweater vest, and a basic bucket hat as my crochet/knit closet collection from the blog! I’m looking to expand the bucket hat collection we have here on the blog with some upcoming patterns and video tutorials, so make sure to look out for that!
Remember to Share this Post to your fellow crocheter friends!
A note that I always like to make, your yarn usage depends on how tight your stitches are or how loose they are, so you might end up using more or less yarn than I did. Or you picked another yarn to work with, then the yardage you’d need will no doubt be different.
Last but not least, if you’d like an accessory to go with this bandeau top—this easy crochet bucket hat could also be a wonderful project for you to tackle next!

Border
R1-R13: Sc all around with 5sc in the corner stitch (stitch count can vary since there are no defined stitch holes all around)
*Note: If your square started to clump/scrunch up, it means you have too less stitches and need to add more between each stitch. If it starts to expand outwards instead of a straight square, it means you have too many decreases. Both can be solved by pulling apart the border and redoing the base, or you can fix the scrunch by adding some increase rows, and fix the expansion with some decrease stitches. Everyone’s stitch tension can be different, so these can be common occurrences.
R14: Sc all around with 5 sc in the first corner stitch, in the 2nd corner (ch4, sk4) , sc to the 3rd corner with 5sc in the corner stitch, in the 4th corner, (ch4, sk4), and sc back to the first corner
