After seeing quite a handful of crochet hexagon cardigans, I thought why not make a knit version of the hexagon cardigan instead! And with a two toned block color way, this easy knit hexagon cardigan is super easy for you to make especially with the video tutorial to help guide you.
Inspiration & Description & Process
The whole reason why this cardigan came to be on the blog was solely due to the fact that I was surprised that the Internet had no knit hexagon cardigans despite the increasing amount of crochet hexagon patterns. I quickly became interested in making one after I realized I had these two chunky skeins of Caron one pound yarns in these beautiful shades of green in my yarn shelf.
They really came together to fit my vision perfectly, since the light and dark contrast is super fitting to make both colors pop. I love the bat wing sleeves and how these cardigan could be made with just two skeins of this Caron one pound yarn (with my size of small) AND just two big hexagon pieces. This cardigan is quite oversized, so really a size of small could easily be a fitted medium.
Assembling this cardigan was arguably the hardest part, as the overall increasing and decreasing aspect of the hexagons is quite mindless of a process. It definitely looked funky when assembling, but it’s only after you wear it is when you see the drape on your shoulder where the sleeves fall into place.
The cuffs are a unique trait to this cardigan, as the hexagon pieces couldn’t extend as far or as equal as a crochet hexagon that’s worked from the center out, the sleeves would tend to fall a little short from the wrists. So I added extra long sleeve cuffs to fill in the gaps for this knit hexagon cardigan.
And I’m super happy to bring this knit hexagon cardigan to you all on the Yarnalina blog today!

We were able to hit 5k subscribers just a little after the start of 2023, which is an amazing start to the new year! Let’s try to hit 10k by the end of 2023 for the Yarnlina YouTube channel <3
I have been making quite a lot more knit projects than crochet ones, despite my knitting tempo being comparatively shorter than my crochet speed, I have quite a handful of projects planned already for 2023 and some videos already in stock to post!
Though bigger projects like clothing delays the pace I publish patterns on the blog, I’m happy that all my projects receive a lot of love on the blog and Youtube channel <3
We currently have the knit classic sweater, knit cropped sweater vest, knit crop top, and knit beanie as the only knit patterns from the blog! I’m looking to expand the knit clothing collection we have here on the blog with some upcoming patterns and video tutorials, so make sure to look out for that!

A note that I always like to make, your yarn usage depends on how tight your stitches are or how loose they are, so you might end up using more or less yarn than I did. Or you picked another yarn to work with, then the yardage you’d need will no doubt be different. So always remember to use the gauge to make sure your project will fit the way you want it to.

Easy Knit Hexagon Cardigan Pattern
Body Panel x2
Long tail CO68
R1: K across (68)
R2: K1 and P1 in first stitch, P across, K1 and P1 in last stitch
R3: K across
R4: P across
Repeat R2-R4 till your desired SLEEVE length – for general size reference R94(98, 102, 106, 110, 114, 118, 122, 126)
R95(99, 103, 107, 111, 115, 119, 123, 127)- R98(102, 106, 110, 114, 118, 122, 126, 130): K across on the first row, P across on the second, K across on the third row, P across on the fourth row
R99(103, 107, 111, 115, 119, 123, 127, 131): K2tog, purl or knit across, K2tog *depending if you ended off at a purl or knit row during your increase rows before you added the four normal rows, you would either have a purl row or knit row here*
R100(104, 108, 112, 116, 120, 124, 128, 132): K across
R101 (105, 109, 113, 117, 121, 125, 129, 133): P across
Repeat R99(103, 107, 111, 115, 119, 123, 127, 131) – R101 (105, 109, 113, 117, 121, 125, 129, 133) until you reach the total number of stitches that you had casted on at the beginning.
Cast off and leave a long yarn tail.
Repeat for a total of two body panels.
Assembly
Fold the body panels in half and sew one side to the other, do this for both body panels. Then put against each other and sew the remaining side with the other body panel without sewing the cardigan shut.
Ribbing
There are no specific cast on stitch counts for this cardigan as everyone could cast on their stitches differently since there’s no obvious stitch holes along the sides of the cardigan.
Use your 4mm knitting needle and grab the yarn opposite of the color you’re working on, and cast on along the edge. For both the bottom and neck ribbing you’re going to cast on to every single stitch you see, but for the sleeve you’re going to cast on two, skip one, and repeat.
Then you’re going to repeat the pattern of K2, P2 to form the ribbing for both the bottom ribbing, neck ribbing, and sleeve cuff ribbing.
For the bottom and neck ribbing, the color block effect is achieved by making the ribbing separately on each side then sewing it together afterwards.
Just for reference and my own preference, for my size of small I had these amounts of rows for my ribbing:
bottom – 9 rows
neck – 13 rows
sleeve – 36 rows
Conclusion
