It almost seems weird that I’ve knitted quite a couple projects EXCEPT for a classic knit sweater so far, and since the fall season has arrived, there’s no better time than now to make myself a colorful knit beginner sweater.
Inspiration & Description & Process
After splurging on a big box of yarn last year summer during the peak of the pandemic, I’ve always knew that I wanted to make some sort of sweater out of this yarn. Even though it’s 100% acrylic, it was soft and not scratchy at all. I originally thought it was some sort of wool blend when I first touched it. The color combination was based on the images, my chosen colors all looked a little ‘dusty/muted’ and I thought that they would look cohesive as a sweater combo.
And they did.
This sweater was so simple and mindless to make after getting past the ribbing, it was just knitting and occasionally checking if it was my preferred length. What’s even better is that both body panels are the exact same without any specific alterations at the shoulder parts. I cannot talk enough about how that was so nice to work a pattern and design that was so simple and beginner friendly.
I wanted to make this pattern for all the beginner knitters, as I remembered young Arlina trying to find a simple knit sweater pattern yet they were all too intimidating with cables, weird-looking with the fit, or costed money. Which I’m totally fine with doing now, but as a beginner knitter it was all very scary and I had just wanted a cute handmade sweater.
And I’m super happy to bring this knit beginner sweater to you all on the Yarnalina blog today!

It’s a wonder why I’ve created a sweater vest even before I designed a knit sweater for the Yarnalina blog, but at least the pattern is finally coming to light on the blog haha! I’ve been creating more handmade pieces for my closet, instead of creating more amigurumis or smaller project pieces like bucket hats recently.
Since I find clothing projects more interesting to design, they do take around 10 times (give or take) the amount of time it takes for me to make an amigurumi. Though it delays the pace I publish patterns on the blog, I’m happy that all my projects receive a lot of love on the blog and Youtube channel <3
We currently have the knit cropped sweater vest, knit crop top, and knit beanie as the only knit patterns from the blog! I’m looking to expand the knit clothing collection we have here on the blog with some upcoming patterns and video tutorials, so make sure to look out for that!

A note that I always like to make, your yarn usage depends on how tight your stitches are or how loose they are, so you might end up using more or less yarn than I did. Or you picked another yarn to work with, then the yardage you’d need will no doubt be different. So always remember to use the gauge to make sure your project will fit the way you want it to.
Last but not least, if you’d like an accessory to go with this bandeau top—this easy crochet bucket hat could also be a wonderful project for you to tackle next!
